This past week I found myself curious, excited and investing in the possibility of new growth for my art. This led me to cleaning out the closet in my office/studio room. I rearranged another corner of the room to make space for using messy art supplies. Now there is an easel by the window and a space to mix up colors, a drop cloth on the floor, a row of rainbow paints to be used up. I didn’t think this space was possible before I started wondering if maybe, just maybe, it actually was totally possible.
I cleared out many pages from half used journals & sketchbooks. I let go of books and resources that I noticed and appreciated are now a part of who I am.
I chatted with a friend about how growth is choosing to trust that we can, we are & we will make the learning our own.
And then I read these brilliant lines by the poet Andrea Gibson:
On Earth, everyone loved butterflies,
but I trusted the caterpillars more.
I trusted the ones who knew
they were not done growing.
On Earth, I was a work in progress,
was comforted in the knowing
that I had a million mistakes
still in me to learn from.
What can you release, rearrange or make space for in support of what wants to grow in you now?
with love,
Anna Marie
