“ It is six A.M., and I am working. I am absentminded, reckless, heedless of social obligations, etc. It is as it must be. The tire goes flat, the tooth falls out, there will be a hundred meals without mustard. The poem gets written. I have wrestled with the angel and I am stained with light and I have no shame. Neither do I have guilt.”
― Mary Oliver, Upstream: Selected Essays
Hi Friends,
Solstice greetings from six A.M. on a Friday!
I hope you are filling up on the beauty of summer, being made more alive by whatever joy and pleasures this season brings forward for you.
For me, this summer is about making art outside in my backyard -I made a whole bar cart into a rolling art cart! , bouquets, books and late afternoons at our neighborhood pool. I am looking forward to a summer full of close to home adventures like salmon fishing, paddle boarding at the lake with friends and early morning walks.
I am currently playing around with exploring color & heart shapes (two things I adore).
And, I have been filling up on inspiration. When I notice myself doing this I recognize it as a important phase of my creative and spiritual process, like a bird gathering material to build a new nest. I feel compelled to share some of the goodness with you here.
This new Ted Talk ‘To love is to be brave’ by Kelly Corrigan burst my heart wide open.
Last night at the first swim meet of the season my daughter’s friend taught her a warm up “to relax” before a race. On the drive home my daughter described it to me: “Shake your leg 5 times, shake your other leg 5 times, shake each arm 5 times.” The body needs our attention and our love, always. Somatic practitioners all over the internet seem to also recommend shaking, but I most appreciated the reminder from the children in my life who so very often reveal their wisdom just by being themselves.
This new song “WORTHY” by Mavis Staples. I’ll just be over here shaking it all out to this most perfect anthem.
Summer love,
Anna Marie
