Dear Friends,
Who is not experiencing fear and heartbreak in our world right now?
This week I want to share the idea of making and noticing beauty as an action to calm the nervous system. A calm nervous system supports a creative human and we need creative humans to make peace.
Making, noticing and embracing beauty is essential. Not to bypass or avoid pain and heartbreak, but to build a capacity within ourselves so that we are better able to hold, be present with and respond to the great challenges of being alive.
We need the comforting physicality that making beauty offers our whole bodies. We need the space that observing beauty opens in our souls.
Beauty can offer us moments of courage and clarity.
Beauty can renew our capacity to face that which is not beautiful.
I believe in the power of beauty in every day life, but especially in the midst of relentless heartbreak.
I am sharing my moments making beauty as a reminder that the efforts can be simple. Small bursts of beauty regularly have a cumulative effect on your energy. Give yourself this gift.
We can use our hands to chop veggies for soup, pick out a few notes on the piano, bang on a drum, doodle in a sketchbook, write a letter, light a candle and watch the flame dance, practice a yoga flow, play with a pet.
