Hi Friends,
It’s been a few weeks…maybe you noticed, maybe not. I find it best to follow my energy in creative endeavors, and sometimes I need to rest. So I’ve been resting and making art and seeing friends. Also, mothering which requires a more fluid schedule in summer.
However! I’ve found some inspiration, beauty & hope this week that I want to share!
The above artwork came from a page in my art journal. The pages stuck together with the first layer of paint so I had to add more collage and paint to deal with the torn areas. The art journal is a such a great place for practicing creative problem solving.
The quote is from a singer whose songs I’ve been moved by for years, Ayla Nereo. I’ve been revisiting her music this week, especially these songs: Vessel, Jane, Lead with your Bones.
“America, Who hurt you? “ is a new podcast by Sarah Jones that “explores the connections between political drama and personal trauma in the United States. The podcast is described as holding up a mirror to the country's many faces as it tries to save democracy.” I love Sarah Jones for her incredible creativity and incredible acting & the first guest is Krista Tippett, whose wise questions often bring me back to my center. This first episode was so nourishing.
Last night one of my dear friends reminded me to jump on to White Women: Answer the Call 2024, the fundraising call for Kamala Harris organized by Shannon Watts. I watched the end of the call live and I felt energized and hopeful around politics for the first time in a long time. This morning I watched the start of the recording where poets, artists and organizers shared such wise words and vision. I highly recommend watching it if you want to jump in to this fight and this important moment, because the we need everyone to jump into this fight!
In love & creativity,
Anna Marie
